Blasphemy Sunday, First Edition

June 21, 2009

Sunday is the day God rested in the Christian tradition.  So what better time for the pious shepherds of Jaws For Jesus Online Ministries to sneak up behind Him and give Him noogies?

This is the first of a weekly installment where I’ll feature some topic of religious or otherwise spiritual nonsense interest.  We’ve got stand-up comedy this week, so videos are after the jump.

We start off with Dwayne Kennedy discussing the Bible’s two most prominent themes.  As befitting a hungover Sunday, the first one is wine. (You’ll have to click the link – embed is not working, for some reason).

Dwayne Kennedy – The Bible

Bill Hicks thinks we’ve run out of ideas on this planet.

And then there’s Lenny Bruce, the John the Baptist to Bill Hick’s Jesus.

Finally, an old interview with Sam Harris, author of The End of Faith and Letter to a Christian Nation; not funny, but important, especially for his trenchant observations like:

If you think the world is going to end in 50 years, and it is going to end gloriously, and its ending is going to be the best thing that could possibly happen — that is a bad piece of software to be running if you have to make decisions about [for example] nuclear first strike policy…

Happy Sunday!

It is the spirit of presumptuous idolatry, and of blasphemy against the God of Israel that leads to its destruction. Marlee Bibles

Your comment got sent straight to my spam folder, dude. You might want to rethink your rhetorical strategy.
